Lots of little masks (for shrunken heads?) |
Columbus in Wooster Square |
This morning we visited the Yale Museum of Art. It had a nice selection of Asian and African art, amount other things. Lots of nice masks. We walked through Wooster Square and then headed for Louis' Lunch. They claim to have invented the Hamburger. After being there, seeing bricks dated 1910 and eating one of their delicious burgers, I am a believer!
We left New Haven and drove to Old Lyme, CT to the Florence Griswold Museum. Around the turn of the last Century, Florence had a nice home and no way to cover the mortgage. An artist encouraged her to open a boarding house for artists and her humble home became the center of American Impressionism. The grounds are beautiful and the house is full of paintings by her boarders. Many did paintings on the doors in the house. Very cool place where artists today can go to paint outdoors. Our next destination was The Rhode Island School of Design Museum of Art. This museum is amazing. Much larger than it appears and it has a great collection of ancient and modern art and (of course) design.

So far, the driving was easy and quick. The final leg into Boston was supposed to take about an hour, it took two. Not much of a surprise at 6:00 on the 3rd of July. We spent a long time in the Thomas O'Neill tunnel. We are staying at the Kendall Hotel in Cambridge. Great place, it's in an old fire house and decorated with cool fire house themed and Americana art. We had a lovely dinner at The Black Sheep, the restaurant in the hotel. We even splurged on a piece of Boston Cream pie. D-Lish!
