Rain and Sun Studios

We woke up in St Louis to thunderstorms, so we took our time getting to the Gateway Arch.

By the time we got there the rain had stopped. We rode in a tram to the top that reminded us of a pod from Men in Black. I don't think our memories were erased. It seemed kind of rickety and you could see all the inner workings on the way up. We rode up one side and down the other, so it was kind of like an amusement park ride, kind of. The view from the top was nice, the windows are very small. It's better looking from ground level, but it was worth the trip. I have renewed respect for Mr Saarinen and his amazing optical illusion. From there we headed to Ted Drewes Frozen Custard for a concrete. Very good, indeed. Then it was time to drive to Memphis, listening to Elvis most of the way. Just one amazing thunderstorm that only lasted about 15 minutes kept the trip from being completely uneventful. We spent about an hour in Arkansas, so we can cross off another state. They have a very nice Welcome Center with free coffee! We crossed the Mississippi once more and entered Tennessee and Memphis. We went right to Sun Studios and made it just in time for the last tour of the day. A great tour with a very informative, nice tour guide who complemented Mara on her Agnosticism T-shirt. We saw lots of pictures from the early days of Elvis, Roy, Johnny and others. Tomorrow, Graceland!

Happy Graceland Day, girls! We'll have to compare notes when you get back. Don't miss the super coolio cars at the 'end' ... I particularly loved some german-made ones that looked more appropriate for Johnny Cash :)
Fun to read about the arch trip. No way am I ever going up in that thing, but I sure do like picnics down below! It is one of my favorite places.
We had some intense weather-action here yesterday, but today it's lovely.
I'll be thinking of you touring the Jungle Room!!
xo, and misses, Betz
