Hola New Mexico

Welcome to New MexicoBeware of Snakes!

Today we left Texas behind and headed on to New Mexico. We are staying in Las Cruces tonight. Just south of town is the historic village of Mesilla. We stopped there before heading to our hotel. The town is nice and filled with old adobe buildings, but the shops were full of touristy stuff (other words could also fit). We plan to see a bit more of Las Cruces in the morning and then drive on to Tuscon.

Billy the Kid was arrested here, but he got away...

not sure what happened here

Sounds like you are having a great time! Did you get your kicks on Route 66? Remember when we took that adventure!! I am all for the side trips, stoping at interesting places along the way, etc! But it does sometimes add to the length of the day. But the questions is what is your journey? To get from point A to point B? Or to learn what is between point A and point B? I like the learning part. Years ago my daughter and I took a spring break road trip with my husband's sister and her daughter, who is the same age as my daughter. We were traveling to Sanibel Island, an Aunt and Uncle have a house there where we were all going to stay. By day 3 the girls were not getting along. And the adults have very different philosophies when it came to travel. One was down and dirty, sped, just get there, spend as little money as possible. In fact one time we had a packed lunch that we ate near the gas pumps at a service station. Yuk. One was more like let's stop and see the historical markers, let find a cute place that serves locals to eat, let's stay in a decent hotel with A/C. Hummm, can you guess which was which? Anyway, it was somewhat torturous at the time, for all concerned. But we look back at it fondly!
In July we are heading out on a mother daught college visit road trip - Northwestern, Oberlin, Vanderbilt, UNC, and the Collge of William and Mary. If we survive, next summer is a trip to schools in the northeast.

Hope you are having fun.

Are you coming to Taco Fest?
